You accuse me, you accuse Judiciary: ex CJ Iftikhar Chaudhry

Iftikhar Chaudhry

“Imran Khan’s allegations against me are tantamount to accusing the entire judiciary of Pakistan”, says ex chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry while talking to reporters after Eid prayers today in Quetta.

Arsalan Iftikhar, notorious son of former chief justice, also lambasted Imran Khan on this occasion and used foul language about Khan’s personal life.

Recently, Arsalan Iftikhar was placed as vice chairman of Baluchistan Investment Board and this decision was severely criticized by Imran Khan as well as entire civil society of Pakistan. Under pressure, Balochistan National Party Chief had to remove Arsalan from this post.

Since then Arsalan Iftikhar has been at loggerheads with PTI Chief Imran Khan and has launched a vile campaign against his personal life.

Imran Khan had accused ex chief justice of being a part of the overall rigging saga that took place in May 2013 general elections. Arsalan’s appointment at Baluchistan Investment Board, which would have given him absolute power to influence decisions in favour of investment companies of his choice, was a move to reward ex CJ for his services, said Imran Khan.

Though Arsalan Iftikhar said there was no salary for his post, experts believe people would give millions to be placed at that position and no one would expect any salary. International companies could pay millions of dollars as commission to get rights to Baluchistan gold mines.

“They will happily deposit your commission to your Swiss Bank accounts; no one can ever know about it”, said an official working for Baluchistan Investment Board on condition of anonymity.

Even BNP (Baluchistan National Party) chief, Hasil Bazinjo, said on record that Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had expressed his desire for his son’s placement at the said post.

Iftikhar Chaudhry sent a 2 billion rupees defamation notice to Imran Khan. The notice said Imran Khan should apologize to ex CJ within 15 days or face the case in court.

Imran Khan, it looks like, is going to face the case in court as Tehreek-e-Insaf  information secretary, Shireen Mazari, said in a press conference that PMLN had put up its opening batsman in the ground but PTI was ready for it.

On the other hand ex CJ seems to be taking the plea that any accusation against him is tantamount to accusing the whole judiciary. However, experts believe if this is true then same becomes true for Pervez Musharraf as well because whatever actions he took he took them while being chief of Pakistan Army.
