The Plight of Pakistan’s National Savings Centre

National Savings Centre

Today I visited the national saving center G-9/2 branch in Islamabad. As soon as I entered the bank, the atmosphere traumatized me a lot. There were a lot of clients present, but there was no proper sitting arrangement. As summers are approaching, the temperature inside the bank was boiling. There were fans but not sufficient enough to entertain either staff or clients. The atmosphere was unbearable. Everyone was in an emergency. The bank management had placed a water dispenser but no sensible person would want to drink water from it.

Besides all these facilities, the major matter is about bank staff who were supposed to give us proper service. Unluckily whenever I visit the bank, the thing I feel the most is that government should appoint more people. Due to deficiency of staff members, the process of facilitating customers was slow. No one in the bank was energetic enough to do work on time. Only the cashier seemed to be efficient enough to perform his job as one should.

It seemed that the staff loved to waste their customers’ time. I talked to other customers as well and most of them showed their annoyance towards the bank management. Some were of the opinion that management should hire more people. Some said that the appointed ones, if did their work energetically, there is no need to increase staff number. While some poor souls suggested that we will compromise with this but will not stand for our rights.

If we logically ponder, we will realize that we are the investors. The bank has to fulfill our demands. We are actually paying them not they. They are our paid servants. What I suggest is that whenever we come across such a problem in a bank, we should talk to the bank manager. We should file a complaint against them to their head office. But unluckily none of us ever dare to practice this. We can yell at the bank staff but would never stand for our rights.
