The Kapil Sharma Debacle

File photo of Kapil Sharma.

So a 35-year young youth comes up with the idea of a satirical show. A show that would incite feelings of disgust, anger, embarrassment and also bully by pulling each other’s legs and degrading someone’s name. We all acknowledged him for it because back then, we had a little glittery trend to be followed and believed, “laughter is the best medicine”, come what may.

We, the emotionally-numb public of today’s time, fell for his bully tactics and carry-forwarded all his sarcastic notions into our day-to-day lives because we thought it was “normal” to bully the hell out of someone. They say, either be dominated or dominate! Kapil Sharma, the rising star of television industry taught us to dominate and bully till we end up hurting our bones, laughing!

Coming to his recent notorious outburst, when he got crazy-drunk and threw a shoe at his co-star, Sunil Grover, and also ended up disrespecting flight attendants (women in totality) who tried to calm him down, he ended up enacting his own show’s motto, in his real life. Clearly, showing his viewers that there can be no difference between REAL and REEL lives. He made all the people surrounding him feel disgusted, embarrassed, angered and bullied.

In a span of seconds, he became the most disdained villain from a hilarious humdinger kind of a personality. Some say, we shouldn’t judge people so quickly by their mistakes and change our perception of them when all they’d ever done was spread laughter, kindness and a good name. But here in this particular scenario of Kapil Sharma, all that he ever did, was use comedy with sarcasm, a sarcasm that hurt, brutally killed one’s conscience.

The fact that he thought he could never go wrong, or he was being loved for what he did, got into his brains and he put on that robe of self-righteousness (I’m the king, and you’re all pawns for me) and started personating what he’d preached!

There are two case-profiles, one in early-thirties and one in mid-thirties, Arijit Singh and Kapil Sharma, they both got fame too early despite not belonging to a Kapoor/Khan-Kandaani Khoon. Arijit Singh, to-date has never shown any signs of being stardom-struck. He always remained a down-to-earth kind of an individual. You see him in award ceremonies, in reality shows, he won’t ever exhibit that he wears a gold crown on top of his head.

On the other hand, Kapil Sharma has become a victim of “Fame in Veins” syndrome. He started treating his co-workers as inferior and behaved as if he ruled over them by bad-mouthing them, at times in public.

Sunil Grover had once left the show earlier when his request for a salary hike was refused, but he returned on public demand as the show was not the same anymore without his character, Gutthi.

But this time, he was mishandled and mistreated by Kapil on their flight returning from Melbourne. Not only is he elder to Kapil, but also much, much popular in the show than him! Sunil Grover’s fans clearly want him to opt out of the show.

The way Kapil Sharma reacted in the flight depicted his inner most feelings of envy and jealousy that he felt for Sunil Grover’s rising popularity and success on the show. Some of the flight members even heard him say, “Teri aukaad kya hai?” while addressing Sunil Grover.

His tweet portrayed a different story, and he tried to call his outburst as a, “unintentional outburst”.

Sunil Grover tweet-replied to that as,

On the other hand, Kapil’s alleged girlfriend/producer of his show, Preeti Simoes quit his show and her twitter account  de-activated. She was blamed to be the source of leaking the gruesome flight incident on twitter.

Also, two more members of the The Kapil Sharma Show namely Ali Asgar and Chandan Prabhakars left the show after Sunil.

There is a lesson for Kapil in this incident, never forget your humble beginning, and never let the fame spoil you don’t see anyone but yourself. How is the near future of Kapil Sharma going to treat him? Remains to be seen!
