Stampede after PTI’s Multan Jalsa kills seven people

Stampede in Multan Jalsa

Seven people were killed and 43 got injured due to stampede at Qasim Bagh stadium’s gate in Multan. The incident occurred when people were leaving the stadium after attending PTI’s Multan Jalsa. Out of eight, only two gates were left open for such a huge crowd which resulted in a stampede.

Qasim Bagh stadium has a total of eight gates, out of which only two gates were opened for the exit of around 250,000 people. The two gates that were opened had hardly 10 foot width. As a result, people got stuck in the gate and resulted in seven deaths.

This decision by the Punjab administration to keep only two gates open is being severely criticized.

Some of the people who were caught in the stampede alleged that Police used water cannon on the people which made the ground slippery, created more panic.

PTI chairman Imran Khan expressed deep remorse over the deaths of seven people. He said that he would come back to Multan the next day to offer Janaza of the deceased and meet their families.

“I am completely heart broken and feel extremely sad when I heard about this tragic incident”, said a visibly sad Imran Khan.

PTI officials have also announced that the party will financially compensate the families of the deceased. “Our help can never make up for the precious loss of lives, but we want to do whatever we can for their families”, said a party official.
