Power shortage in Pakistan and The Need of The Hour

Strike Islamabad traders load shedding

Government of Pakistan is often criticized for not taking any solid step towards resolution of an issue which is crippling Pakistan economically. Yes, I am talking about Load shedding crisis which is causing hindrance in the development and progress of the country.

Though investment is being made in energy sector in order to meet high electricity demand. However, it will take time to produce enough electricity for the whole country and fulfill the current shortfall. At this particular point, the need of the hour is to conserve energy by doing most of the work in a day light.

Recently federal government stepped forward and tried to cope with electricity crisis by ordering closure of shops by 8 pm, marriage halls by 10 pm and restaurants by 11 pm in order to save energy. However the decision, which was taken for the welfare of the public, was not accepted by traders and caused outrage among them. A strike was observed in Islamabad as all business centres remained closed on Tuesday, 28th April, 2015.

Protestants severely criticized this decision of the government as they were of the view that such orders will cause big harm to their businesses as people prefer to go for shopping after sunset due to an extremely warm temperature during the day.

However, in my opinion there is no harm as a similar law is being observed in developed countries like Germany even though they do not suffer from power shortage issues.

People need to understand that, even though such type of measures by the government might not completely eradicate the curse of load shedding completely, but it can help in overcoming this jinn of load shedding to some extent.

Thus we should selflessly cooperate with the Government in this regard for the better future of every one of us.

Besides that, if such an order is implemented then businesses will be opened early in the morning which will make us all early risers which in turn will be good for our health.
