It’s official; Islamabad under Army control from today

Pakistan Army in Islamabad

It’s official now. Army has taken control of Islamabad and will guard sensitive locations of the country’s capital for 3 months. Government had invoked article 245 of the constitution to call Army in aid of civil authority to protect the capital due to security threats amid operation against militants in North Waziristan.

Five companies of Pakistan Army have been deployed in Islamabad who are going to coordinate with police and rangers to maintain law and order situation in the capital. They are going to guard sensitive areas of the capital such as Prime Minister House, Parliament House, President House, foreign missions and other important installations.

Also, Army personnel have been deployed on Margala Hills which connect the capital with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan.

“Not security but Azadi March is the target”

However opposition parties, most particularly Tehreek-e-Insaf, call Army deployment in Islamabad a move to stop their Azadi March from taking place. PTI chief said they are going to challenge imposition of article 245 in the supreme court.

When asked who would be responsible if army opened fired on his workers, Imran said, “Army will never open fire on us as we are not doing anything unconstitutional”.
