Ho Mann Jahaan: From a Different Perspective

Ho Mann Jahaan
Adeel Hussain, Mahira Khan, and Shehryar Munawar Siddiqui

Pakistani film industry has really flourished in the last decade. It has started to produce good quality family movies in various genres such as comedy, adventure, suspense and many more.

One of these is the latest release ‘Ho Mann Jahan’, directed by Asim Raza which was released on the last day of 2015.

While many people have bitter comments about this movie saying it did not live up to the expectations or it was a waste of time and money, I for one, have a different perspective.

The meaning of the title is quite interesting. Ho (be) Mann (heart) Jahaan (where). Be where your heart is or follow your heart. This is the basic theme of the whole story.

One reason to watch the movie is its excellent cast; Mahira Khan, Shehryar Munawar Siddiqui, Adeel Hussain, Sonya Jehan, with cameo appearences of Fawad Khan, Strings and Hamza Ali Abbasi (you might not be able to guess where Hamza’s role is because his disguise is perfect. Play close attention)

The story revolves around the lives of three friends, Manisha (Mahira), Nadir (Adeel) and Arhaan (Shehryar) who have a passion for music. They want to have a career in music yet society and family pressure does not allow them to pursue their passion.

All of them try hard to achieve their dream and form a band together. But in between lay many obstacles. Fights in friendship, being too selfish, relationship problems. The obstacles and the drama is the main climax of the movie. You should watch it yourself to enjoy the moments.

If you like folk music then that is another reason to watch this fun-filled family movie because its soundtrack will make your folk music fantasy come to life.

Oh and I bet you all must have done those ‘Shakar Wandaan Re’ challenges on Dubsmash. How about actually seeing those steps on the big screen?

Personally, the main reason I liked the movie was because it was not like those typical Bollywood movies that one keeps watching. I am talking about those ordinary romantic Indian movies in which the hero gets the heroine and they get married.

I am sure many of you would even be able to relate to the story in one way or the other. Maybe you are so passionate for music like Manisha, or the opposite of a nerd like Arhaan or you just have alot of family pressure not to pursue your passion like Nadir.

Last but not the least, why not just watch a movie worth the rating of 8.5 out of 10 on imdb! That too, a Pakistani one.
