Bernie Sanders may have won the endorsement of Ben Jealous, the former head of the NAACP.

Jealous plans to announce his backing of Sanders in New Hampshire before the February 9 primary.

Sanders has failed to gain the confidence of African-American voters, and Jealous’ endorsement may be the beginning of building voters confidence in the Black communities.

Sanders is making some gain on his presidential opponent Hillary Clinton, according to the polls. Jealous may be that extra boost that places him ahead of president hopeful Clinton.

Jealous was the youngest person to head the NAACP when he was elected in 2008, and served four years. He is responsible for strengthing the political stance of the civil rights organization.

Though Sanders support has slightly increased with African-Americans, polls report that Sanders is having difficulties gaining a large number of black voters in southern states like South Carolina, with just 17% of black voter support, while Clinton is collecting a whopping 74 percent.

The polls stats in this report are based on NBC/Wall Street Journal Marist Poll.
