Fashion: A necessity or a Curse

Fashion is a popular style or practice especially in clothing, cosmetics, accessories, body piercing or furniture. Fashion seems to be ubiquitous.  It seems to have become a necessity of our lives, but should it really be one?

Fashion industry is a product of modern age. In Pakistan too, fashion industry is booming and is earning millions every day. The modern concept of fashion comes from Western and Indian society. The media is and have played a significant role in propagating various fashion trends in our society.

Also, internet has played a key role in this regard. Blogging sites and YouTube videos have become a major sources for spreading trends and fashion tips.

If taken positively, fashion works as powerful tool in a society and it reflects change, progress, prosperity, and advancement.

However, in my opinion fashion is a curse. It has destroyed the life of our youth. Every girl wants to become a model. Students who are go to college and universities do not give proper attention to their studies but are more concerned about buying new products and cell phones which are in common use.

We have walked away from our own culture. We have adopted the western culture, wear short shirts without sleeves and tight jeans and pants which exposes our bodies. We do not know what is our national dress we just wear vulgar dress in which we are exposing our body parts. Now we

However, I don’t think that the word fashion itself is to blame or is a negative thing. However, its usage certainly has crossed the lines in certain areas. Trendy and stylish cell phones have become a part of fashion. Not only does this creates a sense of deprivation in those who can’t afford such luxuries, but it also has made us senseless. People spend a lot of money on expensive stuff which might not be needed as much while on the other hand, thousands of people are dying of hunger.
