There has been a bomb blast in Peshawar today. According to reports, about 12 people have died, including two women. The target was a Frontier Constabulary commandant Abdul Majeed Marwat’s convoy which was passing through the cantonment area.

Friday has always been known by Muslims as a venerated religious day, however, here in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa people have started to associate this day with Bomb blasts and fear of death. Friday, seems to be a favourite day of terrorists to target different areas.

Today’s blast is significant because Election process has started and the country is all set to go into elections on May 11, 2013. Security is going to be a major issue in the process of holding successful elections. Today’s blast is just a small reminder of the grave situations that we are in.

The caretaker governments must ensure foolproof security if elections are to be held peacefully. Suicide blasts like these could derail the election process which would be disastrous for Pakistan.
