Open letter to an Indian Army officer who never reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel

Mr. Gaurav Arya,

I read your letter right after coming back from work but irrespective of the fact that it was intended to be provocative it didn’t cause any exasperation. I rather laughed at it and felt the urge to reply you.

The enemies that you said are sitting beside us are all heavily supported by Indian agencies (in all ways possible) and the dossier of evidences was given to UN months back. Pakistan fought 3 wars with India over Kashmir dispute (1948, 1965, & Kargil) and we celebrate 1965 war. We also remember 1948 and Kargil war with pride because it propelled India to sought UN intervention as India couldn’t fight it.

In 1948 and Kargil, if Indian army officer of your caliber remember history properly, then Indian Prime Ministers sought resolution of war at UN security council because it was impossible for India to win those two wars. 1971 war was state terrorism by India but trust me you lost that war morally. Because Indian dreams to make Bangladesh part of their territory shattered. Bangladesh used Indian army as toilet tissue paper to get what they wanted and then they disposed it off. And besides, state terrorism doesn’t make victors.

If Indian army isn’t ornamental then why high-ups from India called for UN intervention? But still I don’t think Indian army is “ornamental” because it has deployed more than 800,000 army men on just 221km Indian Occupied Kashmir border with Pakistan. It doesn’t make Indian army ornamental, it rather makes it coward!

You bravely asked Honorable General Raheel Sharif in your letter to fight the good fight… man to man…face to face and at the same time you admitted that India is supporting separatists in Baluchistan and Karachi? Where your man to man, face to face fight logic went when you were writing this letter?

Fact is, India has repeatedly admitted to supporting separatist movements in Pakistan because it can’t win wars against Pakistan. Your admittance also proves that India is supporting terrorists (you called them snakes) in Pakistan to spread anarchy.

Sir, you talked about Maj. Rana Shabbir Sharif’s (Nishan-e-Haider) shahadat twice in your letter solely to provoke hatred but believe me, without knowing you, I now know why you never reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in your career. You must stop hiding your insecurities and accept the truth.

We are ready.

Respectfully,

Mahwish Rajput (An ordinary Pakistani)

  • 1971 is conveniently forgotten, wherein 93000 prisoners of war of Pakistani Armed Forces surrendered to the Indian Army including a senior Lt Gen. In 1965, Lahore was about to be captured when Pakistan went crying to UN for cease fire. From 1984 Pakistan tried it's level best to dislodge Indian Army which is holding the strategic Saltoro Ridge in Siachen. Having been frustrated in not being able to dislodge Indian Army from Siachen, Gen Musharraf made a secret plan to capture the heights in Kargil so as to strangulate the supplies to Siachen through National Highway 1A, but failed miscerably. Knowing well that Pakistan can never win a full scale conventional war (for that matter even a nuclear war in the present context) so as to capture Kashmir, has resorted to the proxy war by training terrorists on Pakistan soil and infiltrating them into Kashmir. Alas, apart from sacrificing all these terrorists Pakistan could achieve nothing. Why? Is Pakistan Army not man enough to fight a full scale war with India, if they felt so strong that they have an inalienable right over Kashmir? Whoever has written this article should give an answer to this.

    • Don't be idiotic. Please don't.... 93,000 Army-men never surrendered. there were only 36,000 men of the Pak Army in EP (of which only, 26,000 were infantry).... You had 12 Divs. around EP.... We had 3 (14 div., which was present in EP before 71; 16 and 9 divs., which were brought in from WP during the war, as the earlier brought 22 Baluch and 13 FF were insufficient)... Our boys fought for almost a whole year continuously, including a month of fasting... We held our own against your state sponsored Mukti Bahini... This was non-conventional warfare, was it not? Was the Indian Army not man enough to fight directly rather than using the Mukti Bahini as cover for almost a whole bloody year? The war of 71 was nothing but political idiocy on behalf of our political leaders.... Your Generals have praised our bravery in both of the wars which hold a prominent section of your comment (Hilli, Chhamb, Jaurian, Kamalpur, Shakargarh sector etc. and Lt Col Sultan Ahmed, Capt. Ahsan Malik, Hav. Lalak Jan, Capt Sher Khan, Maj Gen Tajammul Malik, etc. being prime examples).... We lost only a few cities in 71 due to MILITARY PROWESS... Our military was outnumbered 15 to 1 (as according to FM SHFJ Manekshaw).... Yet, we still fought... Pakistan didn't go for ceasefire in 65 first, btw... You were unable to capture Lhr., and your halt was advanced (Sialkot and Chowindah, mate).... Your success rate in RoK wasn't very encouraging either.... Funnily enough, the we had occupied your peaks for 2 whole months before you actually even found out (which was due to villagers at the border noticing the soldiers and their different uniforms).... We did in Kargil what you did in Siachin (videlicet, occupying areas without formal declaration, especially considering how it is an unfinished agenda of independence)... In Kargil, our forces fell back simply due to internal and international pressure (the whole issue with Clinton and Sharif being case in point)... After 65, the west (which was our main source of arms) had placed an embargo upon us... You were still supported by the USSR... This hindered us during 71...

There are two sides to every coin... If you've never seen the face of the other, you've never tossed it up in the air....

      • Figure of 93000 is recorded history now. They were handed over to Pakistan consequent to Simla Agreement. Everything is on record. World media had it on their news items. Why? Ask for your own Country's records. How many PWs did they take over from India you would know. Didn'i Indian Army fight and win the war conclusively in East Pakistan. That is how Bangla Desh was created. On 16 Dec 1971 your Army Commander in East Pakistan Lt Gen AAK Niazi signed the Surrender Document in tha fternoon at Dacca Race Course. Lt Gen Jagjit Singh Aurora India's Eastern Army Commander accepted the surrender on behalf of Indian Army & Bangla Desh. Soon after Indian Army gave a ceremonial parade for Sheik Mujibur Rehman, handed over Bangla Desh and left Bangla Desh with the 93000 surrendered PWs, who were kept in PW camps in India till being handed over to Pakistan after Simla Agreement. This is history. What we are regretting now is that we have not resolved the Kashmir Issue with the PWs in our hand. Where is the doubt in all these?

        • This is a continuation since I had to go away on an urgent call while making the comment. Bravery, wherever seen is to be appreciated. That is a soldiers dharma. Bhagwat Gita says 'veer bhogya vasundhara', which means 'only the brave are entitled to the riches of the world'. That is equally applicable to all soldiers whichever side they are. Your military was not out numbered 15 to 1 in 1965. The ratio is incorrect. It is a basic military dictum that if you wish to attack you must have superiority in numbers over the defender. To have superior number at the point of attack is all what generalship is about. Your statement about Lahore in 1965 is incorrect. Indian forces surrounding Lahore was more than enough to capture Lahore. It was pressure from US which stopped the capture of Lahore, because Lahore was a prestige issue for Pakistan. Kargil was a breach of trust committed by Pakistan. Occupying winter vacated posts is no bravery. Even with SSG help NLI was unable to hold the occupied posts. Captured soldiers of NLI have given out the whole story. We recaptured Kargil soon after occupation, but you are unable to make a dent in Siachen all these years.. Your Qaid-e-Azam post was captured by Naib Subedar Bana Singh in a daring attack. Despite many attempts you are unable to take it back till date. Everything is open on the Indian side, because we are a democratic Country. It is not so in your case. Your elected representatives cannot take any decision independently, they have to look back to the Army & ISI for every thing. That is how Nawaz Sharief did not know how Kargil happened.

Even now there can be a workable solution for Kashmir, if back door methods (all engineered by ISI) are stopped and an honest dialogue is made across the table between the elected representatives of both sides with out interference from ISI or Army (including the anti India militants supported by them). Back door methods can never succeed. If they were to succeed, it would not have prolonged this long. Neither can you fight a full scale war, the results are well known to all. That is why we have declared a 'no first use' policy for our nuclear weapons. We have always been seeing your side of the coin, lest we would not have succeeded in thwarting your designs. Empty rhetorics have got no meaning.

  • Self illusion is the best way for self destruction. There is no cure for it either. This will lead to downfall only. All the best.
