Asher aka Fawad Khan’s Humsafar melts hearts in India

At first it was Zaroon who kept Indian fans glued to their screens, and now it’s Asher from Humsafar who continues to melt hearts in India. Though the personalities of Zaroon and Asher are completely different from one another, the one thing that is common between them is the man who played both of these characters, Fawad Khan.

‘Zindagi Gulzar Hai’ introduced Fawad Khan as Zaroon Junaid to Indian audience. He instantly attracted huge fan following and became the topic of discussions. Social networks were abuzz with the keyword Zaroon Junaid.

It was the first time Indian fans had got the taste of Pakistani dramas. Zee TV, through its new channel Zindagi TV, took the initiative of bringing Pakistani dramas to its audience. It was a completely new and pleasant experience for people in India who were fed with typical Saas Bahu drama serials for years.

Pakistani dramas, especially Zindagi Gulzar Hai, was a completely different world for them. The stories and characters were something they could relate to. Everyone had something they could relate to.

The experience was so enriching that many thought Zindagi Gulzar Hai was the highest peak Fawad Khan could climb. “How could there be a better and more interesting drama than Zindagi Gulzar Hai”, they would wonder.

However, as soon as Zindagi channel started airing Humsafar drama serial, they realized that what they considered the highest peak was infact the peak of a small hill.

Humsafar, with the powerful performances of Fawad Khan as Asher, Mahira Khan as Khirad and Naveen Waqar as Sara has had a bewitching effect on audience in India. And they are not shy about expressing their love.

Realizing this craze, Zindagi channel re-aired back to back five episodes of Humsafar to its audience and fans could not have been more happy.

Asher has completely overshadowed Zaroon. Now Asher is the dream of every girl. He is handsome, he is educated, he is a good friend, he is an obedient son, what more can girl wish for in a guy, wealth? Well, he is quite rich as well.

Humsafar is the direction of Sarmad Sultan Khoosat and is based on Farhat Ishtiaq’s novel of the same name. Sarmad has also directed Shehr-e-Zaat, the third highest-rated drama serial of Pakistan.

Back in the days when Humsafar was being aired on Hum TV, a joke was famous in Pakistan, that if your girlfriend agreed to talk to you the time when Humsafar was on air, you should not think twice before marrying her.

  • It was Zaroon who first took my breath away...and my heart as well. And then came Asher... that was when I fell truly, madly, deeply in love this this charmer(watching this show for the third time now). I then went on to watch Fawad's telefilm Behad in which he plays a young man who falls in love with an older woman. I'm currently watching his period drama Dastan which is set in the troubled times of partition, where he plays a young man caught between his love and his cause. I watched Khoobsurat twice as yet. I have a 'to watch' list of his various other shows, telefilms and his one previous film - Khuda Ke Liye. I am on the agenda of completing all these back to back.
Fawad is a visual treat - his glorious face...his deep, intense eyes... his rich, velvetty voice... his bewitching smile...his honey sweet dialouges in chaste Urdu... But that's not just what he is - he is an extremely talented actor who is equally brilliant in the roles he has played as the ultimate romantic, a fun loving college boy, as a devoted but troubled husband, as a doting father, as a man who is passionate about his cause of a separate nation. In his first Bollywood film Khoobsurat, he plays the prince so perfectly that I forgot he isn't really one and is only playing the part. He sings, plays various instruments; he is intelligent and well read; he carries himself with such grace and dignity; his public personna is spot on; his sense of humour is amazing, ... I can go on and on...
Fawad, you are my ultimate hero. There's no one like you.
Both these shows are at entirely different level in terms of quality. All Indian shows pale in comparision to these simple yet heart warming shows - shows with no big budgets, no overload of melodrama, no huge sets, no heavy dialougues/ monolouges, no ridiculous costumes... and they don't run for years and years without a plot or direction. The fact that these shows are appreciated in India goes to prove that Indain audiences are ready for shows that are more simple and real. Indian television producers, please take serious note of this.
A very big thanks to Zee TV for bringing us the marvel called Fawad into our lives, and for introducing us to shows of great quality and richness.

    • Really impressed by the warmth extended forward to Fawad here. appreciation of talent should not be bound by geographical boundaries. You have my respect.

      • Thanks Teejay. True talent can never be suppressed; it is beyond geography, politics, race, creed, caste and community. If FK was not talented or does not deserve all this appreciation, he would not have been noticed or taken seriously. He is not the first artist from our neighbouring nation to venture into our world of entertainment. But not everyone have been able to make a significant mark. FK paved his way into our hearts only because of his exceptional talent.

Wish people on both sides of the border forget their differences and look at the wider picture - think of all that we can gain from each other....I'm reminded of a story I read as a child, of two once friendly neighbours who turn enemies over petty and avoidable issue. One night, one of the neighbours sees a spark on the thatched roof of his neighbour's house. He decides not to do anything, and is pleased to see the spark turn into flames and burn his friends home. The raging fire becomes uncontrollable and spreads...to his own roof, burning down his own house, before he can even react. Let us hope both India and Pakistan stop being such kind of neighbour's, and resolve their differences soon. Thanks to FK, and to all those involved in taking this small yet mighty step in this direction. This includes all his fans in India who welcomed him with open arms.

FK, keep shining...and keep spreading love.

        • Priyanka, I couldn't agree more on this. It is indeed sad that we are manipulated by our politicians to fulfill their political gains. I just wonder that the amount of talent we have in subcontinent if we could join forces and work together we may be able to take long strides ahead and do wonders.

We need positivity to prevail and ignore hate speech.

        • You are right,Priyanka.i wish I could say the same about our respective governments who are always generating hatred and feelings of animosity amongst people of both our countries.anybody who visits Pakistn goes back wondering why are they hated so much in India.the most recent example was that of Mr.Ompuri, who traversed an almost entire area of this land seeking to be loathed by at least one person but all he got was love and love and love everywhere.

    • priyanka you r wonderful yar real fan of fawad. there are lots of other shows u can watch like PYARE AFZAL and now a days watch SADQAY TUMARE of MAHIRA KHAN

    • i am impressed by these comments and of course agree with every word that is being uttered in praise of Mr. Fawad khan.

  • I LOVE MY PAKISTANI DRAMAS TOO..............WHEN IT COMES TO INDIAN SERIALS I WOULD SAY THAT DONT BASE EVERY SERIAL ON THE STORY HOW A GIRL FACES HURDLES AND ATTAINS A HIGH PLACE IN SOCIETY BY MARRYING A RICH HUSBAND OR HOW A GIRL MAKES HER HUBBY LOVE HER AFTER MARRIAGE.............WHEN ALL THE SERIAL WILL BE BASED ON SUCH TOPICS VIEWERS WOULD GET BORED ................INDIANS SHOULD MAKE DRAMAS ABOUT THE PROBLEMS OF SOCIETY..............

  • Namaste Priyanka,
