The real battle in Punjab: PTI vs PMLN

elections May 11 2013The whole world has its eyes fixed on the upcoming elections of Pakistan. Different people are predicting different results. So far, one thing that has become clear is that the real battle is going to be in Punjab. There are 148 national assembly seats from Punjab alone. The second biggest province after Punjab in terms of number of national assembly seats, is Sindh, which has 61 seats in total. Thus it’s crystal clear that Punjab is key to victory. Any political party that sweeps Punjab is going to be in a position to form the next government. Now, which political party is going to dominate Punjab, is a tough one to call. No one can say that for sure. However, what we can do to predict the outcome is to conduct different opinion polls and surveys. So far, the number of surveys that have been conducted, clearly say that real battle in Punjab is going to be between PML(N) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

Lately international survey results showed PML(N) as a leading party. We at VoJ also conducted a survey on our facebook page which however shows a completely different picture. Also, it is not just our survey, while analysing different other facebook based surveys, we found that PTI was way ahead of PML(N). What is more shocking is that Pakistan People’s Party, which is considered to be the largest political party of Pakistan, has almost non-existent support  in these polls. This clears one thing that the real battle in the upcoming elections, especially in Punjab which is about 65% of the whole country, is going to be between Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz).

Here we are showing the current results of our survey. We asked a question, “Which political party are you truly going to vote for?”. There were ten options provided which included major political parties of the country.

The results of the survey are as followed.

Tehreek-e-Insaf  =   4345

PML(N)               =   1374

MQM                   =   182

PPP                       =   129

APML                  =   90

Jamat-e-Islami     =   82

ANP                     =   23

JUI-F                    =   19

PML(Q)               =   17

PML(F)                =   15

According to this survey, PTI leads the polls by a 3 to 1 majority, which nullifies other International Organization’s surveys that said that PML(N) was favourite party of the majority voters of Pakistan. Also, one German based survey had showed PPP as a leading party of Pakistan. Even former advisor to Governor Punjab on Human Rights, Saleem-ur-Rehman claimed today that PPP was going to sweep the upcoming elections. However, these facebook poll results of VoJ and many similar ones show a completely different picture.

Though, this survey does not show the overall picture of all voters of the whole country, the sample is large enough to atleast show the current trend of the voters of Pakistan, especially those of the educated ones.
