SC Orders Ayyan Ali Name Removed From ECL; Grills Interior Ministry Officials

Supreme Court (SC) on Monday directed Interior Ministry to remove model Ayyan Ali’s name from Exit Control List (ECL). The top court expresses its disappointment at Interior Ministry officials for failing to complete the investigation despite a span of two years.

On 19th January, Sindh High Court (SHC) had issued the same orders of striking Ayyan Ali’s name off of ECL which the federal government had challenged in the supreme court.

It was the third time SC dismissed the plea of the interior ministry.

Chief Justice Saqib Nisar asked the lawyer representing Interior Ministry why Ms. Ayyan Ali was given a preferential treatment as her name had been included in the ECL for the third time. He also inquired how many times the name of murderers had been included in the ECL by the ministry?

Ayyan Ali was arrested at Benazir International Airport on March 15, 2015 when a cash amount of $500,000 USD was recovered from her bag.

Ms. Ali is expected to fly to Dubai as soon as her name is removed from ECL. She has signed various modeling contracts which includes shooting of a music video.
