Davis Cup: Pakistan Beats Chinese Taipei 3-2 in Asia/Oceania Group II Final

Pakistan tennis team beats the strong team of Chinese Taipei 3-2 in the Asia/Oceania Group II final. In the deciding match, Aisam Qureshi beat Jui-Chen Hung 7-6(3) 4-6 6-4 6-3 to promote his team to the Group I of the Asia/Oceania zone.

Pakistan was leading 2-1 when Aqeel Khan lost his match against Chieh-Fu Wang 7-6(2) 2-6 6-7(5) 6-1 3-6 in the fourth round making the 5th rubber to be the deciding match of the tie.

Aisam changed the nomination of Samir Iftikhar ahead of the deciding 5th rubber to play the match himself which he won convincingly.

The win has earned Pakistan a place in Asia/Oceania Zone Group I for 2016 where it will compete against teams of India, Korea, New Zealand, China P.R., Thailand, and Uzbekistan.

Pakistan’s best Davis Cup performance came in 2005 when it reached the World Group play-offs. It was also one step away from qualifying for the World Group when it lost the 1984 Eastern Zone Final against Japan.
