Culprit harassing local Chitrali women identified; publicly apologizes

The man who harassed women in Chitral is apologizing for his act.

Social media has been buzzing with an appalling video of a tourist harassing local Chitrali women. In the video, the man is forcing women for a photo despite their repeated refusal.

Upon the women’s warning to call police, the man can be heard saying, “take my ID card, I don’t fear police, I am from police myself”.

The video went viral and everyone demanded KP police to arrest the culprit and give him an exemplary punishment.

DC Chitral took notice of the issue and asked police to investigate the issue on a priority basis. KP police has identified the harasser and confirmed that he is not associated with police department. They released the harasser’s picture to the public and have sought their help in his arrest.

The video however, is two year old. A youtube user, Aimal Khan, uploaded it to his youtube channel on 19th July, 2016.

However, the alleged harasser himself released a video in which he apologized to the nation. In the video he says he went to Chitral in 2015 and his intention was to record that video as a memory of Chitral.

“I did not shoot the video with any ill intentions and I want to apologize to everyone”, he said.

In a statement, DC Chitral said no one had filed a complaint regarding this incident and this is why it went unnoticed. However, SHO Bumburet Valley has been tasked to identify the women in the video and file FIR on their behalf, he said.

Moreover, he said, in order to discourage such incidents happening in the future, Women and Children Support Centres were being setup all over Chitral to help local easily file a complaint in case of any such incident.
