Ayesha Gulalai, now ex-PTI member, leveled serious allegations against PTI Chairman Imran Khan and other party leadership during a press conference. She alleged that women workers were not safe in Tehreek-e-Insaf and were mistreated.
Ms. Gulalai started her press conference by saying that she was a Pakhtun and respect and honor were the hallmarks of a Pakhtun culture. She further claimed that her father had never hired a driver and drives the car himself because it would defile the honor of family women.
She then went on the allege that Imran Khan of bringing western culture inside Pakistan. “Imran Khan seems inspired from western culture and wants to bring that culture in Pakistan”, she alleged.
However, there are clear loopholes in this statement of Ms. Gulalai. Her sister Maria Toorpakai, a renowned squash player, wears shorts when she plays her matches. Although there is nothing wrong with wearing shorts, but it doesn’t fit well with the definition of Pakhtun, Pakistan and Islamic culture she said believed in.
Furthermore, she alleged that Imran Khan sent her a lewd message back in September 2013. “The first message [inappropriate] I received from Imran Khan was back in September 2013”, she claimed.
Where was Pakhtun honor all this time? Why was she silent all these years? She should have immediately left the party if it was the case.
When a journalist asked her to show the text messages to the media she claimed Imran Khan sent her, she said PTA should check the records. She further said she was going to do PhD in comparative studies, which did not make any sense in the context.
Her father goaded her throughout the press conference. He encouraged her to start her press conference in English. He kept telling her to mention the names of Jahangir Tareen and Pervez Khattak in her talk.
At the end of all this, if Ayesha Gulalai received lewd messages from Imran Khan back in 2013, what was she doing in the party all these years? If she didn’t think women were respected in the party, what was she doing in the party all these years? If she thought Imran Khan didn’t respect workers, what was she doing in the party all these years?
She abruptly left the press conference after facing pointed questions from journalists present in her press conference. She clearly didn’t have answers to those questions.
Moreover, the way her father was managing her throughout the press conference makes one wonder if he is the main director of this whole story? The way she was following each and every word he told her to say, shows that he has a great influence over his daughter. Did he make any deal with someone in return for damaging Imran Khan and PTI’s image through his father? Only time will tell.
